Brazil finished as unbeaten winners of Group E. Tite’s side beat Serbia 2-0 in their final match, with Paulinho and Thiago Silva scoring the >Selecao’s goals.
With two goals to his name, Philippe Coutinho is Brazil’s leading scorer at the tournament. No player from either side has scored more than one yet.
Mexico progressed to the knockout stage after coming second in Group F, behind Sweden but above South Korea and Germany. Despite losing their final game 3-0 to Sweden, wins over Germany and South Korea were enough to see Mexico through to the final 16.
Brazil and Mexico have faced each other 50 times in their history, with Brazil winning 23 and losing 10 of those encounters. Most recently, Brazil beat Mexico 2-0 in an international friendly in 2015.
Mexico have failed to score a single against Brazil in four previous World Cup finals meetings.
Mexico have also famously never got further than the last-16 at a World Cup.
The winners of the match will face one of Belgium and Japan in the quarter-finals on 6 July.

Douglas Costa is ruled out through injury, while defenders Marcelo and Danilo are doubtful. Danilo was forced with a back injury against Serbia, meaning Filipe Luis could come in to the side.
