Japan 5/1 1/8 5/1
Costa Rica 500/1 20/1 1/66
Zambia 100/1 11/2 1/9

Group C features two of the world’s very best teams, as well as two sides just hoping to avoid heading home empty handed.

Spain’s squad is jam-packed full of talent, most-notably Alexia Putellas, who’s won each of the last two Ballon d’Or Féminin awards.

However, all is not well, with 15 la Roja players refusing to be called up for national team duty last year following their quarter-final elimination at Euro 2022, requesting improved training conditions and a new Head Coach.

Well, this didn’t have the desired effect; Jorge Vilda is still in charge and, while the majority of ‘las 15′ are in the squad, this surely isn’t concussive to success.

So, could Japan upset the odds and take top spot?

The Nadeshiko won this competition 12 years ago, becoming the first Asian side, male of female, to win a World Cup title.

The two juggernauts meet at Wellington Regional Stadium on 31 July in a fixture not to be missed.

What about Zambia? Well, they’re set to be fun, if not good.

The Copper Queens’ are making their World Cup debut but, at the Olympics two summers ago, they were involved in a pair of goal-fests, beaten 10-3 by Netherlands before a 4-4 draw with China PR.

Their matches are likely to be high-scoring again, given that Bruce Mwape has three excellent strikers in his squad, so Zambia could have the edge when it comes to finishing third.

Costa Rica meantime are making their second World Cup appearance, seeking a first win, after las Ticas held both Spain and Korea Republic to draws eight years ago.

Overall, Spain and Japan are both likely to have six points out of six after two matches, before meeting in a straight shootout for top spot, so goal difference could come into play.

Predicted: 1st: Spain. 2nd: Japan. 3rd: Zambia. 4th: Costa Rica.
