The Pittsburgh Steelers are not expected to make a trade with the Miami Dolphins for tight end Jonnu Smith, according to sources that spoke to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This comes less than a week after Pittsburgh reportedly held trade talks with Miami regarding the availability of the Pro Bowler.
During a television interview with WSVN, Smith’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said that his client has made it clear he wants to remain in Miami.
Sources: Former Bills and Jaguars WR Gabe Davis is scheduled to travel to Pittsburgh on Wednesday to visit with the Steelers on Thursday.

“Here’s what I will say on behalf of my client: Jonnu would definitely like to stay in Miami,” Rosenhaus said. “That’s his first choice. This is where he lives in the off-season. He had a record-breaking season last year. It was the best season ever for a Miami Dolphin tight end… He broke the team record for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns for a tight end and was the team’s single Pro Bowl player. He’s an incredibly valuable part of this team… He went to college at FIU. His dream team is the Dolphins. Hopefully, everything works out where he can stay in Miami.”
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel also emphasized the importance Jonnu Smith plays in the offense and that he wants him to remain in Miami.
“I haven’t considered anything other than I want Jonnu on the team,” McDaniel said earlier today during a media session before OTAs. “I think he wants to be here. My experience with business is that you let that play out.”
With the prospect of Jonnu Smith joining the Steelers now behind them, Pittsburgh is still interested in “potentially adding another playmaker on offense to complement DK Metcalf,” according to sources who spoke to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz. This would explain why the Steelers are hosting free-agent wide receiver Gabe Davis for a visit this week.

Davis will be in Pittsburgh on Thursday for a visit, sources said. He had previously had visits with the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants last month.
Entering his sixth year in the league, Gabe Davis previously played for the Buffalo Bills and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Last season, he caught 20 passes for 239 receiving yards and two touchdowns in nine starts with the Jags.
