‘What in the world’: Arsenal fans react to Bernd Leno’s sale price

Bernd Leno is expected to make the switch to Fulham for a surprisingly low fee.

Leno has been on Arsenal’s books since 2018 following a transfer from Bayer Leverkusen.

For much of his time in north London Leno was Arsenal’s no.1 shot-stopper. He has made 125 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions, keeping 37 clean sheets.

However, following the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United last summer, Leno fell seriously out of favour under Mikel Arteta.

The German made just four Premier League appearances last season and was quickly dropped once the Gunners reached the League Cup semi-finals.

As a result, it was not too surprising to see Fulham looking to make a move for the 30-year-old. What is pretty surprising, though, is the low fee Arsenal have reportedly accepted.

As per David Ornstein, Leno’s Fulham medical is almost done. Arsenal will net just £3m up front for the keeper, on top of an extra £1m based on Premier League appearances.

Arsenal could then earn £2m if Fulham stay up in 2022/23 and then a further £2m if they stay up again the following campaign. But given Fulham are something of a yo-yo club, the reality of the situation is that Arsenal will probably only earn £4m from the Leno sale.

This has bemused many Arsenal fans online, with just some of the reaction shown below:
