Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Aston Villa betting tips: Premier League preview, predictions and odds

Wolves have won three of their last five meetings with Aston Villa despite only winning five of their previous 26 top-tier clashes. Villa won this fixture 1-0 last season but haven't won back-to-back trips to Molineux since 2012.

Under 2.5 goals is 8/13.

Danny Ings has scored five career goals against Wolves, only netting more often against Spurs and Everton. He is 11/2 to break the deadlock and 2/1 to score anytime.

Hee-chan Hwang is 15/2 to break the deadlock and 11/4 to score anytime.

Match preview

This may not be the Midlands derby these two sets of fans look forward to most but, with Birmingham and West Brom out the picture, it'll have to suffice.

The reverse fixture in October was certainly tasty enough with Villa leading 2-0 with just ten minutes to go, seemingly on course for a solid win.

Romain Saïss then halved the deficit with Conor Coady equalising before Rúben Neves' deflected free-kick snatched an astonishing 3-2 victory.

Let's hope for more of the same as the two reconvene in the Black Country.

These two are next-door neighbours in the Premier League table just now, despite the fact Wolves are actually ten points better off.

Bruno Lage's side come into this one having lost four of their last six, most recently 3-2 at home to Leeds in another contender for game of the season.

Before this, they'd began 2022 by winning six of eight games but are now two points below the probable European positions.

If they are to catch West Ham, Man United, Spurs and/or Arsenal and get back into UEFA competition, Wolves need to start a winning run here.

Aston Villa too have seen their form deteriorate after winning three on the bounce between 26 February and 10 March.

Since hammering Leeds at Elland Road, Steven Gerrard's side have lost both outings, 2-1 at West Ham and 1-0 against Arsenal.

So, since Gerrard's arrival from Rangers, Villa have won eight and lost eight, highlighting the lack of consistency their enduring.

Who will win this derby of sorts at Molineux?

Wolverhampton Wanderers team news

Raúl Jiménez's controversial red card against Leeds means he is suspended for this game.

So Hee-chan Hwang, who started both of Korea Republic's World Cup qualifiers last week, could lead the line here.

Elsewhere, with Nélson Semedo injured, Jonny will continue at right-wing-back with Rayan Aït-Nouri getting the nod over Marçal on the other side.

Bruno Lage might feel this game is right for Leander Dendoncker to anchor midfield, alongside João Moutinho and Rúben Neves.

This was see Daniel Podence partner Hwang while Francisco Trincão, Pedro Neto and Fábio Silva would be left out.

Aston Villa team news

Philippe Coutinho will likely start against Leeds

The big question continuing to face Steven Gerrard is can he play both of Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins.

If not, which one sits out?

Watkins scored his second England goal against Côte d'Ivoire on Tuesday, but Ings has a phenomenal scoring record against Wolves.

Midfielder Jacob Ramsey is the second-top scorer this season with six so far.

Only two Villa players aged 21 or under, namely Luke Moore and Gabriel Agbonlahor, have scored more in a single Premier League campaign.

At the back, Ezri Konsa is fit again so Calum Chambers may only be a substitute once more.
