Washington Commanders @ Kansas City Chiefs preview
Without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Washington Commanders (3-4) face a tough task to improve upon their record of five defeats at the Kansas City Chiefs (4-3) when the teams meet in the NFL on Tuesday.
“That’s just part of the game,” said Commanders defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr, who knows the importance of stopping an opposition quarterback in Patrick Mahomes who “can make every throw from every way” and has 11 touchdowns in his last four games.
“You lose a guy and the next guy steps up. We need to be able to get to [Mahomes]… so that his percentage of throws is down and control it from that way.”
Marcus Mariota, who has completed 31 of his 48 pass attempts for 363 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in his two previous starts this season, will replace Daniels, who has a hamstring injury.
“We have to make sure that the communication is [right] and, in the details, we’re playing fast,” outined Whitt Jr.
“The main thing is that, if we can pick up the play speed, the ball will come to life. As a coach, you have to take any doubt or hesitation out of the equation.
“We’re going to pare things back and allow the guys to play fast.”
Washington Commanders @ Kansas City Chiefs prediction
Alongside the Arizona Cardinals, the Commanders are one of two teams never to have beaten the Chiefs on their travels and it would be a bold move to back them to improve on a 1-10 overall record in encounters between the teams.
Prediction: Washington Commanders 20-30 Kansas City Chiefs
