Preview for Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants
The Philadelphia Eagles visit the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium as they aim to bounce back from their first defeat of the 2025 season.
Philadelphia had reeled off four successive one-score wins to start a campaign in which the Eagles are looking to claim back-to-back Super Bowl titles.
However, the Eagles’ appetite for living dangerously came back to bite them last Sunday, as they surrendered 18 unanswered fourth-quarter points in a 21-17 home defeat to the Denver Broncos.
That loss placed the Eagles’ offensive performance under greater scrutiny, with wide receiver DeVonta Smith claiming afterwards that the passing game was not on the same page.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts saw the upset by Denver as an opportunity for the team to learn.
“It is about us, and how we look into our process and we have to truly take that a day at a time so we can make it as difficult or as easy as it needs to be,” Hurts said.
“Ultimately, we just have to have the right mentality going into this week and every week and take [control of] the things that we can control, assess our systems, assess our process, assess all of these things and say, ‘What can we improve on? What’s working?’ Not even what’s working, what’s efficient, what can we improve on, and really evaluate that and grow.
“But I say this again, it’s not a capability thing. We just have to really stay focused on the task at hand, stay focused on the main thing, and be bought into the collective of doing that by any means necessary. So this is a great one to learn from and we will learn from it.”
And a game with the Giants should represent an excellent opportunity for the Eagles to put things right.
The Eagles have won six of their last seven regular-season games against the Giants, who last week slumped to defeat to the previously winless New Orleans Saints.
New York led 14-3 in the Superdome in the second quarter, but committed five turnovers as the Giants gave up 23 unanswered points to lose 26-14.
With Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and rookie Abdul Carter on the defensive front, the Giants will be hoping to disrupt Hurts and take advantage of the potential absence of Eagles guard Landon Dickerson (ankle).
The Giants are hopeful running back Tyrone Tracy will be able to return from a shoulder injury, but wide receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring) is expected to miss out.
Former Giants star Saquon Barkley (knee) is anticipated to play, with the reigning Offensive Player of the Year relishing his latest return to the Meadowlands.
“I know the Eagles are doing what they’re supposed to do, but nothing [I’m] too worried about,” Barkley said of his injury.
“Just some general soreness. I’m excited to go play.”
Prediction for Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants
The Giants have the means to cause the Eagles’ offense problems with their front four on defense. A divisional game on a short week coming off a tough loss is unlikely to be easy for Philadelphia, but it’s difficult to envision the Giants playing the kind of mistake-free football on offense that will be required to pull off the upset.
Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles 21-13 New York Giants
