Jalen Hurts demands ‘fire’ in defeated Eagles as Dallas hit back thanks to record-breaking Dak Prescott

Jalen Hurts is hoping yesterday’s capitulation to the Dallas Cowboys “lights a fire” in the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles were cruising 21-0 inside 18 minutes with Hurts seemingly on a mission to silence suggestions he had lost the support of his offense in recent weeks.

The quarterback rushed for two touchdowns and connected with AJ Brown for another as Philadelphia dominated in every facet of the game and seemed firmly on course to move to 9-2 for the season.

But things fell apart very quickly. George Pickens and Brevyn Spann-Ford scored touchdowns for Dallas before Dak Prescott also reached the end zone.

Dallas quarterback Prescott then led a late drive that ended with Brandon Aubrey slotting over a 42-yard field goal for the win.

“We’ve got to find a way to finish the game, and we’ve got to find some consistency in what we do,” Hurts said. “Definitely the tale of two halves. In the end, we didn’t play a complete game as a team, and today it got us.

“We’ve got to own this one, let it light a fire in us as a team and stay together and move forward.”

Little time for sulking for the Eagles

The Eagles have a short turnaround as they play the Chicago Bears in Philly on Friday.

“My message is as simple as you take pride in everything because you know these moments we have right now last a lifetime,” Hurts added. “So how do you want to respond? How we respond is very important, and I’ve said it before, you know, after moments like this, I have a lot of confidence in how we respond. So we’ll be back to work and got another opportunity coming forward.”

It was a frustrating afternoon for Hurts but one to celebrate for Prescott, who broke Tony Romo’s record of 34,183 to become the franchise’s all-time leader in passing yards.

He did it on a nine-yard completion to Pickens in the third quarter with Dallas 21-7 down. He shrugged off the congratulations of his team-mates to focus on the job in hand but admitted afterwards it is something he will look back on with fondness.

“I mean, it’s a special game and it’s a game that I definitely won’t forget,” Prescott said. “I’m not a guy [who is] even thinking about records or taking memorabilia or things like that. After this game, one of the [athletic] trainers asked me, ‘What do you want to do with the jersey?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’m going to keep that one.’ I know it’s a game that I won’t forget. It’s a game that hopefully I can look back and say, ‘This was the moment, this was the time, this game [that] meant everything to that season.’ Right now, I’m just staying where my feet are. Super, super thankful for this team, for the men, for the opportunity honestly.”

Prescott earns praise of Schottenheimer

Dallas moved to 5-5-1 with the win and head coach Brian Schottenheimer was delighted for his star man.

“I know he won’t say it, but that’s a pretty cool record that he broke,” Schottenheimer said. “And to do it in a game like this where we beat a really good football team the way we did, I’m sure it makes it even sweeter.”
