Belichick tipped to take over struggling New York Giants

One of Bill Belichick’s former players has tipped the out-of-work head coach to take over the struggling New York Giants.

Wide receiver Julian Edelman, who played in 137 regular-season games for the New England Patriots under Belichick, winning three Super Bowls, believes his former mentor could make a major impact in the Big Apple.

Edelman told ‘The Herd with Colin Cowherd’: “The real enticing one, to me, is if the New York Giants open up.

“And I am not calling for anyone’s job. I love [Brian] Daboll. Daboll is my favorite. But the fate of what they’ve put on the field… You’re going to go down with that ship.”

Belichick started out with the Giants

Belichick left the Patriots at the end of last season after 24 years and a record six Super Bowls and is currently working in the media but Edelman says he always had a soft spot for the Giants, with whom he launched his coaching career as DC between 1985 and 1989.

“I remember vividly any time we played in New York or we played the Giants, you could just see a little jingle in Belichick’s spirit because he loved talking about those old Giants teams,” Edelman added.

“And he loved talking about that organization. You could tell that he loved the New York Football Giants. He just loves the Giants. So, I think, that would probably be the place he would want to go to.”

Belichick is 72 years of age but it has been reported he wants to return to a coaching role next season.

The Giants opened their 2024 campaign with a dispiriting 28-6 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings with the MetLife Stadium crowd showing their displeasure.
