Xavi compares Ferran Torres to Luis Suarez after Spaniard’s poor showing for Barcelona vs Napoli

Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has moved to defend Ferran Torres by using a comparison with Luis Suarez.

Torres signed for Barcelona in the January transfer window along with Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The trio were all in action on Thursday evening as Barca faced off with Napoli in the Europa League Round of 32.

The Blaugrana dominated the tie but were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou, leaving them at a slight disadvantage for the return leg in Naples next week.

One of the reasons Barcelona were forced to settle for a draw was their poor finishing on the day.

Ferran Torres did score the equaliser from the penalty spot, but his finishing overall proved pretty woeful.

In turn, speaking after the game, Xavi was quick to back Torres, by revealing his belief that Luis Suarez too struggled in his first few games for Barcelona:

"I have remembered it in the locker room, it also happened to Suarez in his first games, the Barca shirt weighs a few kilos more.

"I am delighted to have Ferran Torres, it is a matter of time and to continue believing, he knows that he has our trust absolute."

Valencia vs Barcelona

Torres will likely not have to wait long to prove himself once more for La Blaugrana.

This comes with Barcelona set to return to action on Sunday, facing off with Valencia in a La Liga clash.

Barca head into the weekend sitting 4th in La Liga, but with three teams hot on their heels in the race for a top-4 finish.

As a result, they cannot really afford to drop any points versus a Valencia side languishing in 12th and winless in five.
