‘Worse than Sunday league team’: Qatar slammed after World Cup opener

The first game of the 2022 World Cup drew to a close a short time ago.


The match saw hosts Qatar face off with Ecuador.

As Qatar are also in a group with Senegal and the Netherlands, any chance Qatar had of picking up some points from their group came on Sunday.

However, Ecuador never really got out of second gear but still completely dominated the game.

Enner Valencia thought he had opened the scoring inside three minutes on Sunday but his effort was ruled out following a dubious VAR call.

The former West Ham striker then made it 1-0 from the penalty spot 11 minutes later before then adding a second with a stunning head after 31 minutes.

Following the game, many fans have taken to Twitter to express their disbelief at how bad a side Qatar were vs Ecuador.

Their goalkeeper was shocking throughout the match and it was very clear that Ecuador were leaps ahead of their opposition in terms of both technical and physical ability.
