England, USA, the Netherlands and Senegal became the latest sides to book their place in the knockout stages of the World Cup on Tuesday as the tournament steps into the decisive round of the groups.
Brazil, Portugal and France had been the only three sides to progress to the last 16 with a perfect record after two games in Qatar, but comprehensive wins for England and the Dutch put down statements of intent ahead of the next round.
Argentina, Denmark and Belgium are among the sides facing a battle to seal their places in the next stages while Germany have it all to do on Thursday if they wish to progress as the tournament begins to take shape, with groups C and D to be decided on Wednesday – day 10 of the tournament.

We expect similar statistics this match where they will be favourites and have to push to win the game. Australia will not win many corners but conceded 11 against France in their opener. France to win
France have all but sealed top spot in Group D barring some miraculous results in the final games. Tunisia would have to beat France by a bigger score than Denmark beat Australia to qualify, or beat France and hope that Australia and Denmark draw, regardless of other results, they have to beat France here to have any chance of qualifying. France will likely rest a few key players and have the options of giving game time to the likes of Pavard, Saliba, Thuram, Coman, Guendouzi and Konate. Lionel Messi scored a stunner and set one up and looks back to his former self. Poland have been poor in their opening 2 games despite not conceding a goal. The quality of Argentina should shine through with ease here and seal the top spot in Group C.
Australia v Denmark

Australia are somehow still in this competition. They beat Tunisia 1-0 despite being 2nd best to everything that game, and now have a chance to qualify out of the group stages against the odds. Denmark need to win to qualify. They were very unlucky to not to get anything from the France game, however played some good football, creating some great chances and not conceding too many. Denmark are a good side, and many people’s dark horses this tournament. They should brush past Australia and seal a place in the knockout rounds.
Saudi Arabia v Mexico

Saudi Arabia have been the surprise team to us at this World Cup. They caused one of the greatest upsets in World Cup history beating Argentina 2-1 on the opening day, but were then defeated 2-0 to Poland much against the run of play. They attack in number and are a very athletic and aggressive side. Mexico were brushed aside from Argentina and sit bottom on 1 point. They’ve not really turned up yet and they now have to win this game if they want to qualify, which will leave them open at the back for Saudi Arabia counter attacks who will also be playing for the win.
