Why Thomas Tuchel rejected chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo for Chelsea

An insight into why Chelsea did not sign Cristiano Ronaldo this summer has been revealed.

Ronaldo has made it obvious that he is looking to leave Manchester United this summer, with the main reason behind an exit his desire to protect his Champions League goal-scoring record.

However, due to his age, wages and his inability to fit into many modern systems, Ronaldo is having a hard team finding a new club.

At this point it feels as though the Portuguese has been offered to and rejected by nearly every single club playing in the Champions League this year.

One of the clubs linked with Ronaldo earlier in the window was Chelsea, who could do with a striker after letting Romelu Lukaku return to Inter Milan on loan.

However, despite Todd Boehly being keen on the idea of landing CR7, Thomas Tuchel shut the move down.

According to the Times, Boehly pushed for the signing of the Portuguese star as he liked the idea of building the attack around him.

Even if Tuchel did not want Ronaldo, though, it remains clear that Chelsea need to add some form of goalscorer to their ranks.

Kai Havertz is a talented player, but he simply lacks the ability to score enough goals as a false-nine.

Raheem Sterling, meanwhile, though he scored twice vs Leicester, remains inconsistent in front of goal.
