Henrikh Mkhitaryan is out of the Europa League final

On Tuesday, Arsenal have confirmed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will miss the Europa League final against Chelsea.

Mkhitaryan isn’t injured, but he won’t travel to Azerbaijan for security reasons.

Arsenal have posted the following statement on their website:

We are very disappointed to announce that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will not be travelling with the squad for our Uefa Europa League final against Chelsea.

We have thoroughly explored all the options for Micki to be part of the squad but after discussing this with Micki and his family we have collectively agreed he will not be in our travelling party.

We have written to Uefa expressing our deep concerns about this situation. Micki has been a key player in our run to the final so this is a big loss for us from a team perspective.

On Monday, Azerbaijan’s ambassador to the UK made the case that Mkhitaryan would be perfectly safe if he played in the Chelsea match.

Mkhitaryan has played in 11 Europa League matches for Arsenal this season. He’s yet to register a goal or assist.

In the Premier League, Mkhitaryan scored six goals and chipped in with six assists in 25 matches.
