According to SPORT, West Ham are close to finalising a deal for Barcelona defender Marlon.
An agreement has been reached by all parties on a 15 million Euro deal with just the minor details to be decided upon.
OGC Nice loan
Barcelona signed Marlon on a permanent deal in July of 2017 for a fee in the region of £4.5 million.
However, Marlon was immediately loaned out to Ligue 1 side OGC Nice. Marlon’s loan to OGC Nice is supposed to be for two seasons, but it looks as though it could be cut short in order for Barcelona to sell the Brazilian to West Ham.
While at Nice, Marlon has proven to be a quality defender who is very good on the ball, as you would expect from someone who Barcelona signed.
The Brazilian made 27 appearances for OGC Nice last season and was a real rock at the back. Marlon also still has plenty of time to develop as a player.
This is something West Ham will be pleased with as they are in desperate need of some young players to add to an ageing squad.
West Ham have recently appointed Manuel Pellegrini as their new boss and Pellegrini is set to be given up to £75 million in order to bring some fresh legs to West Ham.
When appointed West Ham boss, Pellegrini stated:
“West Ham had a difficult season last season and I hope that next season we are going to play football that will delight the fans.
“I always play attacking football and we must try to reach important targets in the season.
“I am excited about this project. My mentality is always to have a winning mentality and I will hope that I can repeat here what I did with all my clubs here in Europe, where I have always arrived in European competition.”
Given his ability, Marlon could well be the perfect signing for Pellegrini’s new look West Ham side and could join the likes of Issa Diop and Lukas Fabianski who have already joined the Hammers this summer.
