West Ham in ‘pole position’ for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah

West Ham have emerged in ‘pole position’ for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah this summer, it has been reported.

The forward, who is set to leave north London for nothing this summer when his contract ends, but has put the cat firmly amongst the pigeons with a series of strong performances leading the line for the Gunners in the last month, providing 4 goals and 1 assist in 4 outings so far.

It has led to reconsideration from Arsenal about the striker, who they seemingly now want to keep. However, Nketiah will be well aware that the Gunners will also be looking to bring in another forward this summer if not two, and he could find himself in the same position again should he commit to the club beyond this summer.

In all likelihood, then, he will leave.

West Ham chase forward

And West Ham are reportedly the team most likely to win his signature at present, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

The Hammers would certainly be able to offer him plenty of game time, with David Moyes’ side set to play European football for the second successive season, and with currently only Michail Antonio as a recognised striker in the squad.

The 32-year-old has played 45 times this season, and is on course to reach 4000 minutes for the season, it is the fifth most in the West Ham squad, and it is clear that he needs the workload to be shared.

Adding the young striker would be a very efficient and sensible piece of business.
