West Ham 3-1 Chelsea: Match report, player ratings, fan reaction and more

All the action and reaction from the London Stadium.

West Ham and Chelsea clashed in a London derby on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides headed into the game looking for their first wins of the season after West Ham drew 1-1 with Bournemouth and Chelsea shared the same result with Liverpool on the opening weekend.

When all was said and done in east London, West Ham came away with the win.

A James Ward-Prowse corner gave West Ham the first chance of the game but Robert Sanchez reacted well to the loose ball.

The Englishman was on the end of another corner six minutes in and this one landed on the head of a free Nayef Aguerd, who put the home side 1-0 up thanks to some awful marking.

Chelsea thought they had a penalty two minutes later but the foul was committed after the offside flag went up.

Ben Chilwell then headed an Enzo Fernandez cross wide midway through the first half. Carney Chukwuemeka put the Blues back on level terms 28 minutes in after he picked up a poor clearance and smashed an effort in.

Chelsea’s dominance continued after their first goal, with Sterling winning a penalty four minutes before the break, which Enzo Fernandez missed.

Sterling should have had a second assist a few minutes later but three Chelsea players failed to connect well enough after his great run and low cross into the Hammers’ box. The away side then lost Carney Chukwuemeka to injury right before half-time.

Much like the first half, West Ham struck early in the second, with Michail Antonio firing the home side back in front:

West Ham were dealt a major blow 67 minutes in as goalscorer Aguerd was shown a second yellow card.

But Chelsea could not capitalise on their man advantage and hardly tested West Ham for the remainder of the game. Their best chance to equalise for a second time fell to Madueke, who forced Areola into a great save.

Another Chelsea sub, Moises Caicedo, gave away a penalty after 94 minutes, which Paquetta scored to secure the three points.
