Chelsea signed Casadei from Inter Milan for an initial £12.6m last week and he is seen as a long-term heir to both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho, with the pair having entered the final year of their respective contracts.
The 19-year-old has played plenty of football for Inter’s youth sides but did not manage to make his senior debut for the club before his exit.
As a result, even with Chelsea’s current midfield issues, it seems unlikely the Italian will have a regular role for the Blues anytime soon.
Now though, Thomas Tuchel has been discussing his new signing, outlining what he can bring to the club and what he must do to earn a first-team place.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Tuchel suggested that Casadei needs to learn English, learn what Chelsea football club is about and understand the culture and principles of playing for the Blues:
“First of all, we need to give him time and not get overexcited because that would not do him a favour,” said the German.
“He’s a box-to-box midfielder, very strong with his head, very physical for his age but at the moment it’s important that he learns the language, he learns what Chelsea is all about and understands the culture and the principles to live and play for Chelsea.
“Then we will try and bring him to first-team training and open the doors for him. In the end, he needs to step through himself.”
