Official: Newcastle star seals Watford switch

Championship outfit Watford have, on Thursday evening, announced a fresh addition to the club’s backline.

The latest player to have taken his talents to Vicarage Road with a view to the new season? Jamal Lewis.

For those not familiar with his name, left-back Lewis is fresh off another hugely disappointing campaign in the Premier League, with Newcastle United.

Once considered an up-and-coming star in the making, the 25-year-old has long fallen heavily out of favour at St. James’ Park, on his way to a paltry seven league appearances over the course of the last two seasons combined.

Speculation pointing towards a Tyneside exit, in turn, came as little surprise over the early weeks of the summer transfer window.

And, as alluded to above, on Thursday, precisely that has at long last been confirmed.

As per an official statement across the website and social media platforms of Championship outfit Watford:

‘The Hornets are pleased to confirm the signing of Newcastle United defender Jamal Lewis.’

Northern Ireland international Lewis has made the move to Vicarage Road on a season-long loan, featuring an option to buy for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2024.
