Record-setting German champions Bayern Munich have taken a step in securing continued success on the pitch after securing veteran ace Thomas Müller for another two years in Bavaria.
As reported by reliable transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the Weilheim in Oberbayern-native agreed to a further two-year extension on his contract with Bayern in the wake of the current Bundesliga holders securing their tenth league title in succession after dispatching Borussia Dortmund on matchday 31.
Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić spoke about the synonymous relationship that exists between club and player, stating "We can't imagine Thomas Müller without FC Bayern - and FC Bayern without Thomas Müller," with the German international star set to embark on his fifteenth Bundesliga season next term after first arriving at the club back in 2000 as an 11-year-old.
After climbing through the youth ranks, Müller made his debut during the 2008-09 campaign where he made a handful of appearances, but already rose to prominence the following term when he hit 13-goals and bagged 11-assists in his first full top-flight season.
Since then, Müller truly has crafted himself into a Bayern Munich legend over the years, making 624-appearances across all competitions while scoring 226-goals and adding a further 242-assists in addition to building an international career with the national team that has been nothing short of stellar.
With the Bundesliga giants securing another league win this season, Müller also set multiple milestone achievements along the way after he scored his 50th goal in the Champions League (only the eighth player to do so) while also eclipsing 600-appearances for Bayern and only bested by club legends Sepp Maier, Gerd Müller, and Oliver Kahn.
Most impressively, Müller secured his 11th league win this season, becoming the winningest player in Bundesliga history.
The club is also primed to offer a similar extension to club captain and star keeper Manuel Neuer despite recently turning 36.
Another name intrinsically linked with the club's legacy, Neuer continues to perform at the highest level for Bayern and will go down as one of the greatest transfers in club history after he was secured from boyhood club FC Schalke 04 back in 2011. Though Bayern failed to win the league in his first season, he has been a key cog in each of their ten consecutive league wins.
Thomas Müller may be Mr. Bayern himself, but the club would not be where it is today without the pair of German icons.
