After being backed as the next big thing following a transfer to Real Madrid at 16, Martin Odegaard struggled to find his feet as a footballer.

A number of loan spells largely ended poorly but after a spell with Real Sociedad, Odegaard joined Arsenal on loan in the 2020/21 season before then signing permanently in the summer of 2021.

Since plying his trade with Arsenal, Odegaard has developed into one of the best no.10s in Europe, with Kevin De Bruyne the only man ahead of him in the Premier League.

Odegaard is also Arsenal’s permanent captain at age 24 and already has two goals from four Premier League games this season.

And now, Fabrizio Romano has provided a positive Arsenal contract update on the Norwegian.

Romano said: “Ødegaard is in love with Arsenal & Arsenal are in love with Ødegaard, so the feeling is mutual that they will continue together for a long time. Arsenal are now planning to continue contract negotiations with Ødegaard in the next weeks & months, in order to get a new deal done.”
