Jose Mourinho is looking to sign a second Chelsea academy star in as many years, according to reports.
Mourinho is currently at the helm of AS Roma, who signed Tammy Abraham from Chelsea during the 2021 summer transfer window.
Abraham has since gone on to take the Serie A by storm, with his superb form even seeing him earn a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.
In 29 league ties this term, Abraham has scored 15 and assisted three for Roma.
Now, Mourinho looks to be aiming to repeat the success he has had with Tammy with another Blues youngster.
That player is central midfielder, Conor Gallagher. According to football.london citing Teamtalk, 'Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly planning on a second raid on the Blues in as many years with a move for academy starlet Conor Gallagher.’
Gallagher is expected to challenge for first-team opportunities next term, but with N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic still at the club, it is hard to see the Englishman being afforded too many chances in 2022/23.
Conor Gallagher would be sent out on loan to Crystal Palace for the 2021/22 season.
At the time, a move for the 22-year-old who had a mixed loan spell with West Brom the season prior made sense.
N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic were all clearly ahead of Gallagher in the Chelsea pecking order, whilst Saul Niguez was also brought in from Atletico Madrid.
Since his move to Palace, the central midfielder has been one of the Premier League’s most impressive talents.
In 25 league ties this term, Gallagher has scored eight and assisted three.
