João Palhinha sounds out potential move to Bayern Munich

The 28-year-old has become a vital piece under compatriot Marco Silva at Fulham after his arrival last summer, being largely viewed as one of the top holding midfielders in the Premier League.

Fulham star midfielder João Palhinha has left it late to potentially depart Craven Cottage before the conclusion of the summer transfer window as the Portuguese international has sounded out interest in German giants Bayern Munich.

The 28-year-old has become a vital piece under compatriot Marco Silva at Fulham after his arrival last summer, being largely viewed as one of the top holding midfielders in the Premier League. But despite his gravitas in the capital, Palhinha is now apparently ready to make the next step in what has been a credible career, with Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg reporting his desire to join Bayern Munich.

According to Plettenberg, both Bayern and Fulham are now opening discussions to work on a possible solution, with personal terms thought to not be an issue as Palhinha awaits an agreement between both parties.

Cottagers boss Marco Silva recently sung Palhinha’s praises after his influential performance in the club’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal after he scored a late leveler to deny the Gunners at home before also helping Fulham knockout Tottenham in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Palhinha, who was voted as the club’s Player of the Season in 2022-23 in a landslide, was one of the signings last season in the Premier League after his arrival from Portuguese giants Sporting CP in what can otherwise be described as a massive coup for Fulham, but such has been his performances in the English capital that it was always going to be difficult for the club to hold on to a player of his caliber.

With Bayern desperate to secure a new holding midfielder under Thomas Tuchel this season, all roads could point to Bavaria in the next 48 hours.
