Everton confirm departure of Jean-Philippe Gbamin

Premier League outfit Everton have, on Monday evening, confirmed that midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin has departed the club for the remainder of the campaign.

Ivory Coast international Gbamin has of course endured another nightmare campaign to date.

Owing to a combination of fresh fitness woes, competition for places and even a lengthy ban from driving on the back of a late-night crash back in September, the 26-year-old has been afforded a measly three Premier League appearances, just one of which came in the form of a start.

In turn, it came as little surprise when word began to spread online over recent days that Gbamin could be set for an imminent Everton exit.

And, as alluded to above, as much has since been confirmed late on Monday evening.

Gbamin has opted to link up with Russian heavyweights CSKA Moscow on loan for the 2nd-half of the season, in a bid to rediscover his form.

This comes with the winter transfer window in Russia differing from that across the rest of Europe, in not being set to slam shut until the 22nd of February.

Saints defeat

Word of Gbamin's departure of course comes fresh on the back of yet another concerning outing for Everton this past weekend.

After appearing to get things back on track courtesy of a 3-0 downing of Leeds the week prior, Frank Lampard's Blues slipped to a whopping 13th defeat of the Premier League campaign.

A trip to St. Mary's to take on Southampton ultimately culminated in Everton being put to the sword by two goals to nil, owing to strikes on the part of Stuart Armstrong and Shane Long.

The Merseysiders, in turn, remain hovering precariously close to to the drop zone, just four points clear of Watford in 18th, albeit whilst in possession of a game in hand on both of the clubs directly below them.
