Word stemming from the media on Thursday points towards a new favourite emerging in Arsenal’s striker pursuit ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
The player in question? Darwin Nunez.
As per a report from Portuguese outlet Record, the transfer team in north London have set their sights firmly on Uruguayan international Nunez ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window.
This comes with the Benfica star, still just 22 years of age, having enjoyed a scintillating campaign to date. All told, across 33 appearances in all competitions, Nunez has racked up 26 goals and two assists, finding the net, on average, once every 83 minutes.

Record, in turn, go as far as to suggest that Arsenal have already initiated contact with their Benfica counterparts, launching a ‘charm offensive’ in the hope of making the Uruguayan the club’s attacking spearhead for the 2022/23 term.
Notably, Record’s report comes on the same day that Ryan Taylor of The Express, another following Arsenal’s striker pursuit closely, too hinted that Benfica’s main man has ‘worked his way towards the top’ of the Gunners’ summer wishlist.

Laca to follow Aubameyang
It is of course common knowledge that at least one marquee addition will most likely be added to Mikel Arteta’s attacking ranks at the Emirates ahead of next season.
This comes with the Gunners, just months on from allowing ex-captain and star goalscorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to walk on a free transfer, primed to bid farewell to two more centre-forward options.
The contracts of both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah will expire upon the conclusion of the campaign, potentially leaving boss Arteta with just the inexperienced Folarin Balogun to call upon through the heart of his frontline.
