Chelsea have had some rotten luck in the transfer market this summer, losing out on two top talents in the form of Raphinha and Jules Kounde to FC Barcelona.
Now though, it looks as though it is Chelsea’s turn to get one, or two, over on a rival club.
This comes with The Athletic reporting that Chelsea have offered Brighton & Hove Albion in excess of £50million for left-back Marc Cucurella and are also in direct talks with Barcelona to sign midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Chelsea’s interest in Cucurella comes after Manchester City spent most of the summer being linked with the Spaniard.
However, City and the Seagulls could not come to terms on a fee, allowing Chelsea to swoop in. Brighton, though, look to be trying to take advantage of Todd Boehly’s lack of experience in the transfer market, as it is claimed that Brighton have not accepted the bid for Cucurella as they seek a higher fee and a replacement.
There is confidence at Stamford Bridge that a deal for the Spanish international will be completed following negotiations on Tuesday night, but Brighton do seem to be milking Boehly for everything he has.
Elsewhere, Manchester United were, of course, eyeing a move for Erik ten Hag favourite Frenkie de Jong for much of the 2022 summer window.
Now, however, Chelsea are speaking to Barcelona about the 25-year-old and are optimistic about striking a deal.
