Chelsea have set a clear ultimatum for youngster Ian Maatsen that states he must sign a new deal or a solution in the transfer window will have to be found, according to recent reports.
Chelsea are now set to proceed with talks over a new contract for Maatsen, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the season.
It is easy to see why Chelsea do not want to lose Maatsen for free as the player clearly has some value, even if he is not currently playing for the Bluesβ senior side.
Fabrizio Romano also provided an update on the left-backβs situation:Β βIan Maatsenβs situation at Chelsea will be clarified in the next weeks/months.
βChelsea are waiting to understand his position on a new contract. If he doesnβt renew and they decide to let him go, the price tag will probably be close to what they agreed with Burnley; Β£30m package, add-ons included.β
Maatsen joined Chelsea from PSVβs academy as a youngster but has only made five senior appearances, with 90 minutes vs AFC Wimbledon in the League Cup last month his longest outing.
