The Blues needed to replace Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger when they left on free transfers, and they appeared to have done so by signing Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana – the latter of which completed his medical on Tuesday.
However, it now looks as though the west Londoners want to add a third centre-back to their ranks this summer.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are in advanced talks with RB Leipzig to sign Josko Gvardiol. The deal, if it gets done, would be completed now with Gvardiol staying at RB Leipzig for the 2022/23 season:

€90m for a player you will not even use until next season does seem a bit much. However, Chelsea are no strangers to spending big and are seemingly set to continue that pattern under Todd Boehly.
The Blues have already spent over £160m this summer, and could easily end the window having splashed out over £300m if the deals for Fofana and Gvardiol go through.
Gvardiol joined RB Leipzig last summer from Dinamo Zagreb for nearly £17m. He has since featured on 50 occasions for the German outfit, scoring two and assisting four.
