Gakpo has spent his entire career on the books of his hometown club, PSV.

The Eindhoven-native has featured on 134 occasions for PSV’s senior side. In these games, he has scored 42 and assisted 33.

Gakpo had a particularly fruitful 2021/22 season, which saw him notch 21 goals and 15 assists in 46 outings across all competitions – a fantastic return for a winger.

Gakpo, who made his senior Netherlands debut in June of 2021, is a natural left-winger. However, he is pretty versatile and is also more than capable of lining out through the middle, too.

Such fine form and versatility has attracted interest from a number of clubs this summer.

Among these have been Arsenal and Leeds United. Now, however, it looks as though Arsenal are the favourites to land Gakpo ahead of Leeds.

“Leeds have got a lot of wide players, they’ve already got options that can play out wide.”

Should Arsenal sign Gakpo?

Arsenal already have an abundance of wide options in their squad, with Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli generally the preferred choices to start on the left since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure.

Gabriel Jesus is also a very capable option on the left flank, spending much of his Manchester City career operating from there.

However, Gakpo would still no doubt be a valuable addition to a side now playing European football in 2022/23.

He also has some experience playing on the right and could provide some much-needed cover for Bukayo Saka – especially if Nicolas Pepe leaves the club this summer.
