Tottenham’s Harry Kane makes England history (twice) as Rooney record inches closer in San Marino rout

Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane has this evening etched his name ever further into the history books of English football.

Kane leads rout

The Three Lions are of course locked in action at present.

In their final qualifying fixture ahead of next year’s World Cup, Gareth Southgate and co. have made the trip to San Marino, aware that a widely predicted victory would ensure their place at the Qatar showpiece.

And, as things stand, to say that England look well on their way to precisely that would be something of an understatement.

An almost laughably one-sided affair currently sees the visitors leading by six goals to nil.

Harry Maguire opened the scoring inside six minutes on the night, before an own goal from Filippo Fabbri set the stage for a rout on the quarter of an hour mark.

And, since, it has proven the Harry Kane show.

Remarkably, in the space of fifteen minutes, England’s main man managed to find the net on 4 (yes, FOUR) occasions, to send the Three Lions in at the break six goals to the good.

Records falling

In turn, on the back of his latest quick-fire goalscoring spree – the hitman also netted thrice in the first-half versus Albania last week – it should come as little surprise to hear that Kane has since etched his name into the history books of international football.

First, after netting England’s third versus San Marino, it was revealed that the Tottenham talisman had set the record for most goals ever scored for the Three Lions in the space of a single calendar year:

His 3rd of the night, and England’s 5th, meanwhile, saw Kane become just the 4th player in the nation’s history to bag a hat-trick in back-to-back appearances:

Taking his latest haul into account on a wider scale, it has also been confirmed that Kane now sits just five goals shy of record-holder Wayne Rooney in England’s all-time goalscoring charts:
