Tottenham table 25m euro bid for central defender following Porro arrival

The Lilywhites are still looking to improve before the end of the transfer window

Tottenham have reportedly tabled a 25m euro verbal bid for Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapie as they look to add further depth in the heart of defence before the end of the January transfer window.

The Lilywhites were heavily linked with the Bayer Leverkusen defender over the summer, but ultimately balked at the price tag and opted to sign Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona, who has since appeared 19 times for Antonio Conte’s side this campaign on the left side of his back three.

And, following the arrival of Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon, with the 23-year-old Spaniard expected to fly to England on Sunday to finalise his move after losing the Portuguese League Cup final 2-0 to Porto on Saturday evening, Spurs are looking to add a third signing before the January window slams shut on Tuesday evening.

As per German sources, they have identified Hincapie as that player, with the Liywhites tabling a verbal offer of around 25m euros for the 20-year-old’s services. However, a resurgent Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso will look to hold out for far more in the final days of the transfer window, with Hincapie having started every Bundesliga game he has been available for this season.

Hincapie is well versed in playing in a back three, starring on the left side of defence for Leverkusen, and as a left footed defender could slot in perfectly for Antonio Conte and Tottenham as they target a top four spot despite a midseason wobble.

As it stands, the north London side sit three points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, though the Red Devils have a game in hand and the chance to stretch that gap to six points.
