Italian outlet is on Sunday, reporting that Tottenham want to sign Cagliari midfielder, Nicolo Barella.

Baring a brief loan spell with Como 1907, Barella has spent all of his career with Cagliari.

The 21-year-old played 41 games for their youth team, in which he scored four.

Since debuting for their senior side, Barella has gone on to play 87 games in all competitions for Cagliari.

In those 87 games Barella has scored seven and assisted two.

Barella’s start to the 2018/19 season has been particularly impressive.

The young central midfielder has played all 12 of Cagliari’s Serie A games, scoring one and captaining them on three different occasions.

The youngster is also currently on international duty with Italy.

Mousa Dembele’s replacement?

If Tottenham do sign Barella, he could well be the replacement for Mousa Dembele at Spurs.

The 31-year-old centre mid has less than a year remaining on his current Tottenham contract and is likely to leave the North London club on a free over the summer.

Dembele has still been an important member of Tottenham’s team this season.

The Belgian has made 10 appearances in the league for Spurs and two in the Champions League.

But recurring injuries and his age mean Dembele is in need of being replaced in the near future with Barella seemingly on Spurs shortlist to do so.

Tottenham were also reportedly in for Ajax centre mid Frenkie De Jong but Manchester City have apparently beaten Spurs to the young Dutchman.
