Antonio Conte will take a break from football after he undergoes surgery to remove his gallbladder.
Tottenham confirmed the news in a statement on Wednesday morning:
“Antonio Conte recently became unwell with severe abdominal pain. Following a diagnosis of cholecystitis, he will be undergoing surgery to remove his gallbladder today and will return following a period of recuperation. Everyone at the Club wishes him well”
According to the NHS, it can take up to eight weeks to return to full activities after gallbladder surgery.
Cristian Stellini is the club’s assistant manager, and oversaw media duties ahead of Tottenham’s recent FA Cup win over Preston. Whilst not confirmed by the club, he is expected to step up in Conte’s absence.
Tottenham are next in action on Sunday the 5th of February. The Lilywhiyes face off with Manchester City in a Premier League clash.
