Thomas Tuchel confirms two Chelsea stars will miss Brentford clash

Thomas Tuchel spoke to the media on Friday ahead of Chelsea’s next outing.

The Blues face off with Brentford in one of several 3pm Premier League kick-offs set to take place on Saturday. Ahead of the game, Tuchel held his latest pre-match press conference this afternoon.

The German would discuss a number of topics in the presser, including team news. Tuchel confirmed that both Ben Chilwell and Callum Hudson-Odoi will miss out versus Brentford but everyone else is in training: "Hudson-Odoi and Chilwell will miss the game tomorrow. Callum still feels his Achilles a bit and has some lower back problems. Everyone else is in training."

"Reece James is ready to go and in the squad."

The Chelsea boss also confirmed that Cesar Azpilicueta's contract has been extended: "I knew it was going to happen because I knew the number of games. It's good news for us."

Chelsea vs Brentford

Chelsea head into the weekend’s action sitting third in the Premier League table, and on a fine run of form.

The west Londoners have now won five on the bounce and, as a result, look to have secured their top-four status for another campaign.

Chelsea are currently five points above fourth-placed Arsenal with the same number of games played and a full eight points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham, who have also played one game more.

As for Brentford, they are still somewhat in a relegation battle. The Bees sit 15th in the Premier League, and whilst they are eight points clear of 18th, Watford could close this gap to just five by winning their game in hand.
