Steven Gerrard confirms double Aston Villa boost before Tottenham

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed some altogether positive news on the personnel front, ahead of the club's return to action this weekend.

The Claret and Blue are set to kick their Premier League campaign back into gear on Saturday evening, when they welcome Antonio Conte's Tottenham to the Midlands for a highly-anticipated clash.

And, in a boost to Villa's hopes of defying the odds en route to a positive result up against the high-flying Lilywhites, two players previously listed as doubts to feature in 24 hours' time look set to be at the disposal of Steven Gerrard.

Speaking in a press conference on Friday afternoon, the Villans' boss was asked for the latest on his squad's wellbeing.

And Gerrard went on to confirm that both Emi Buendia and Tyrone Mings have returned to training over the last 24 hours, having recovered from respective 'niggles' picked up against Wolves last time out:

All associated with Aston Villa, of course, will be desperate for the club to secure a bounce back result this weekend, amid an alarming dip in form over recent weeks.

After seemingly turning things around under the watch of Steven Gerrard courtesy of a trio of successive wins from late February into March, the Claret and Blue have since slipped to defeat in each of their last three Premier League outings.

The latest of these came last weekend, when Ollie Watkins' late spot-kick was not enough to overturn a two-goal deficit at the hands of midlands rivals Wolves, plunging Gerrard and co. back into the bottom half of the English top-flight table.
