Southampton team news and predicted XI vs Liverpool

All the latest from the relegated South Coast side

Southampton host Liverpool in a game that means nothing for either side on Sunday, with both teams sure of their fates for next season.

The Saints were relegated from the top flight several weeks ago, though they will wish to go out on a high under manager Ruben Selles, who is leaving at the end of the season along with likely much of their squad.

They face a Liverpool side that cannot finish anywhere other than 5th, with a win for Manchester United in midweek condemning Jurgen Klopp’s side to Europa League football next season, meaning that the game will have a more relaxed affair than other ties across the division.

Here’s how we expect the Saints to line up for the clash, and the latest team news from St Mary’s.

Team News

Striker Che Adams is a player that Ruben Selles is keeping an eye on ahead of the clash with Klopp’s side, with the striker having missed the last two games through injury.

‘I am not sure that he can play against Liverpool, but I’m not sure also to the opposite. So, we are managing that. Che had a problem with his calf that was repeated a couple of times in the season’, the Saints boss explained.

January signing Paul Onuachu is touch and go for the game too, with Selles revealing that he has picked up a back probem.

One piece of good news for the south coast side was the return of Tino Livramento, who managed thirteen minutes against Brighton after more than a year out with cruciate ligament damage. However, he is unlikely to be thrown back into the first XI, especially for a dead rubber game, and could see more minutes from the substitutes bench.
