Cristiano Ronaldo v Leo Messi
Cristiano Ronaldo fans can’t believe it.
A picture is doing the rounds on social networks claiming that Leo Messi has won the 2017 Ballon d’Or.
If true, that would be a major shock.
At the recent FIFA Best awards, Ronaldo scooped the top prize.
That’s after the Portuguese star helped Real Madrid win both La Liga and the Champions League last season.
Most people expect Ronaldo to win this year’s 2017 Ballon d’Or award as well.
Should that happen, Cristiano will join Leo Messi having won the prestigious award five times.
Leaked cover of France Football's Ballon d'Or edition? Did Messi win the Ballon D'or 2017?
Don't know if this is real or not… pic.twitter.com/mHLLzi1iKc

‘Leo Messi wins the 2017 Ballon d’Or’
Yet, according to a photo of a supposed future edition of France Football magazine, Leo Messi has won the award.
Is the photo fake?
Perhaps, and a lot of people have made that assertion on social media.
But another explanation has also been forwarded. According to reports, France Football always make three different copies of their Ballon d’Or magazine, covering for the three finalists.
France football would lose all credibility if Ronaldo won. Worst player in Europe. Tiny patch of top form in the latte stages won’t be enough. Leo top scorer & in assists in 2017 plus 30+ MOTMs. Ronaldo has more poor performances than average. @francefootball Messi Ballon D’or https://t.co/iy3zrVShoE

All this nonsense in my mentions and on the timeline about some kind of Messi 'leak'?
France Football always do 3 Ballon d'Or magazine covers, one for each of the nominees.

There’s also a second photo of the Leo Messi, France Football front cover.
Why Cristiano Ronaldo fans are worried
But there’s also a reason to believe Leo Messi may have won the award.
Twelve months ago, the 2016 France Football Ballon d’Or cover was also leaked early on social media.
The front cover – which was later proved to be real – revealed that Real Madrid and Portugal forward Ronaldo won the top individual accolade.
Ronaldo had enjoyed a stellar 2016, scoring the winning penalty in the Champions League final and playing a key role as Portugal won Euro 2016.
