Paul Pogba

Are Barcelona applying their Liverpool tactics to Paul Pogba?

Barcelona’s Luis Suarez & Man United’s Paul Pogba

Luis Suarez has set off alarm bells at Man United.

Suarez, the Barcelona striker, has been interviewed by Catalan radio station RAC1 this week.

During the Q&A, Suarez was asked about Barcelona signing Paul Pogba from Man United. The former Liverpool forward said:

Paul Pogba is an elite player who has won everything you can.

He is a player with a lot of quality and is one of the stars of Manchester United, and would probably like to be competing for even more trophies than he is right now.

He would always be welcome at Barcelona, even if he is not our player.

Of course, Gerard Pique also spoke about Pogba moving to the Camp Nou recently.

Liverpool & Philippe Coutinho

Has Suarez revealed an underlying plan at Barcelona to sign Pogba?

Many have taken to social media in the aftermath of the Surez interview to recall how Barcelona signed Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.

Barcelona waited patiently for Coutinho before the Brazilian eventually switched from Anfield last January.

Regarding Coutinho, many Liverpool fans accused Barca of unsettling the playmaker over the course of several months.

Was the intent of Suarez’s comments to unsettle Pogba in a similar manner?

Sport on Pogba & Coutinho

It’s worth remembering a recent article from Spanish paper Sport at this point.

A few weeks ago, Sport claimed that Barcelona are trying to court Pogba by following the Coutinho blueprint. Readers were told:

With Pogba, the club was made aware that the player wished to leave Manchester United and sign for Barca. Inside the dressing room at the Camp Nou, they’re excited about the possibility of bringing Pogba in.

Yet United toldBarca they wouldn’t sell their star midfielder at this time.

Pogba did everything he could to force a transfer and is open to a January move, or even one next summer. It all depends on the price tag.

This is similar to what happened with Coutinho last season, with the groundwork in place for a future deal. Two of the three will come a year later than expected but the next set of signings are already in place.
