The agent and father of Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has this afternoon moved to knock back claims that his son could be set for an imminent departure from the club.
27-year-old centre-half Mustafi has been on the books at the Emirates since 2016, when he made a big-money move to north London from Spanish giants Valencia.
However, despite his £35 million+ price-tag, and widespread excitement surrounding his signature, the German’s Arsenal stint has since proven underwhelming to say the least.
Impressive showings on Mustafi’s part have all-too frequently been spoiled by high-profile mistakes on the part of the stopper, the latest series of which essentially cost Unai Emery’s side a top-4 Premier League finish over the final weeks of last season.
Arsenal’s fans have long made their feelings crystal clear regarding Mustafi’s place at the club, with most of the opinion that the capital giants simply won’t be capable of reestablishing themselves amongst English football’s elite with the World Cup winner continuing to hold down a regular starting berth at the heart of the club’s backline.
As such, news emerging over the last 24 hours that a number of clubs were showing an interest in Mustafi’s signature, along with the suggestion that Arsenal are very much open to his sale, no doubt came as music to the ears of the Gunners’ faithful.
First, L’Equipe ran the story that Monaco had emerged as suitors for the former Sampdoria man:
AS Monaco have enquired for Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi, according to L’Équipe. The outlet claims he is valued at €30m.

Then, the reliable David Ornstein revealed that a ‘number of clubs’ are in negotiations with the Arsenal board over a potential deal for Mustafi.
Arsenal in talks with number of clubs over Shkodran Mustafi exit. 27yo (contract until 2021) wants to stay + prove himself. But #AFC want permanent or loan departure. Also hope to bolster central defence pre-deadline & retain interest in Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney #CelticFC

‘Nothing in it’
Another outfit rumoured to be keen on the German, meanwhile, are Serie A giants AS Roma.
Reports in Italy over the last 48 hours have hinted that the Giallorossi are lining up an offer of just under 20 million Euro for Mustafi:
Whispers around Italy suggests that AS Roma are lining up a bid in the region of €19 million for Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi as a replacement to Manolas. Sources close to Roma camp have confirmed interest. More to follow

As such, speaking briefly to RomaNews earlier today, the Arsenal man’s father and agent, Kujtim, was inevitably questioned on the speculation surrounding his son.
Mustafi, though, quickly shut down links to Serie A, insisting that there’s ‘nothing’ in the rumours that the defender looks set for an imminent Emirates departure:
‘It’s news to me. There’s nothing in it. There has been no contact with Roma or any other Italian club.’
