The players in question are Carlos’ countrymen, Fred and Casemiro.
The former left-back thinks Casemiro and Fred both share a defensive mindset that can only benefit offensive players.
Speaking to Football Daily, Carlos said: “They [Fred and Casemiro] are players that have good [pitch] coverage and because I am very offensive. They are players that would cover well for me.”
But whilst Carlos is clearly a fan of the Brazilian contingent of Manchester United’s midfield, Erik ten Hag has handed them both little minutes this season.
Casemiro arrived from Real Madrid over the summer and was expected to slot straight into Manchester United’s midfield as they have been crying out for a proper defensive midfield for some time.
However, Erik ten Hag began the campaign with Scott McTominay in the no.6 role and, even following Casemiro’s arrival, has continued to show faith in the Scotsman.
As for Fred, he has spent the last several years partnering McTominay in the ‘McFred’ pivot.
Ten Hag, though, is keen for at least one of his midfielders to be great on the ball, which has led to Christian Eriksen slotting into a deeper role and starting ahead of Fred.
