An update on the wellbeing of Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has, late on Friday, been forthcoming online.

The name of Argentinian international Martinez, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines on the red half of Manchester over the last 24 hours.

This comes after the 25-year-old set pulses racing across the Red Devils’ fanbase, in being forced into a premature departure from United’s 2-2 Europa League quarter-final draw with Sevilla.

Late in the action at Old Trafford, Martinez, under little pressure, suddenly went to ground clutching his right foot.

Upon his pain level becoming evident, the former Ajax man was subsequently carried from the pitch, before being helped onto a stretcher and carried straight down the tunnel by the hosts’ medical staff.

Speaking post-match, Erik ten Hag admitted that he had been left concerned by the situation, albeit whilst being unable to provide all that much of an insight into the specifics of Martinez’s injury.

The info comes courtesy of Argentine journalist ESPN, who reports that:

‘Lisandro Martinez has a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot. It remains to be seen if it needs to be operated on or it is better to wait for the bone to heal on its own.’

At the very minimum, Martinez is therefore expected to miss the coming six weeks of action.

His season, as a result, looks over.
