Rangers fans call for van Bronckhorst to part with as many as 5 players in January after Hibs defeat


Supporters of Scottish giants Rangers have taken to social media in their numbers on Sunday, to call for major changes at the club on the back of their defeat to Hibernian.

A new era on the blue half of Glasgow was of course kicked into gear earlier this evening.

On the back of Steven Gerrard’s departure for Aston Villa, newly-appointed Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst was tasked with a League Cup showdown with the aforementioned Hibs, in his maiden outing on the club’s bench.

And, when all was said and done at Hampden Park, Sunday’s action only served in further highlighting the true scale of the task on van Bronckhorst’s hands back in Scotland.

A hugely concerning display saw Rangers essentially out of the game by half-time, as Martin Boyle’s hat-trick set the stage for an eventual 3-1 Hibs triumph:

Jack Ross’ men, in turn, march on to a League Cup final showdown with Celtic in just shy of a month’s time.

At Rangers, though, the inquest will now get underway.

Despite dominating possession, the Glaswegian heavyweights majorly disappointed across the 90 minutes this evening, struggling to break down a stubborn Hibernian backline, whilst looking wide open at the back, particularly in central areas.

Though it must of course be remembered that Sunday’s marked new boss van Bronckhorst’s first outing at the helm, it is now clearer than ever before that the Gers squad requires serious retooling moving forward.

And, as alluded to above, demands for precisely that have quickly spread across social media this evening, as those of a Rangers persuasion call for a whole host of key performers to be moved on as soon as January:
