Are Everton in for Augustin?
RB Leipzig’s Ralf Rangnick has responded to rumours suggesting Everton will look to press through a €40million deal for Jean-Kévin Augustin in January.
Everton are very much in need of a top-class striker if they hope to make it into the top six this season and possibly the top four next season.
The club currently have Cenk Tosun, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse as their out-and-out striker options.
Safe to say, none of them are good enough for a top six team.
Richarlison has been used as a striker due to the lack of options up front and while he has a decent strike rate, his consistency hasn’t been great.
Fast forward to this week and Everton were linked with a move for RB Leipzig striker Jean-Kévin Augustin.
Ralf Rangnick refutes suggestions
France Football reported on Monday evening that Everton would look to close a €40million deal for Jean-Kévin Augustin in January.
Augustin is certainly the kind of striker the Toffees should be targeting and at only 21-years-old, could be a very shrewd purchase.
However, according to Leipzig director of football Ralf Rangnick, no move has been made for the Frenchman.
Not only that, Rangnick has questioned why French news outlets are speaking about an English club making a move for a German clubs player.
“We know nothing about it,” he explained, as quoted by RB Live.
“I also do not know why France of all people should know that an English club should be interested in a French player in Germany.
“This is a topic for the rumour mill, we have no plans in any direction.”
