Pochettino & Cavani amongst latest names linked with Newcastle

Newcastle set for takeover

After over a decade at the helm, Mike Ashley’s tenure at Newcastle finally looks set to come to an imminent end.

Speculation began to ramp up last week that Ashley’s controversial stint in the North East was almost over.

It has since been reported by The Times that a £300 million Saudi Arabian deal to buy Newcastle from Ashley is done, and is now only subject to Premier League approval.

The Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund will own 80% of Newcastle, according to The Times, with the Mirror having added that the Magpies’ new owners are ready to make a series of cash injections into the North East outfit in order to build them into Champions League challengers.

It has also recently been reported that Newcastle’s new owners will be the wealthiest in the Premier League, with the SAPIF worth a staggering £320 billion.

Pochettino & Cavani linked

Unsurprisingly, given the vast wealth of Newcastle’s soon-to-be owners, a number of top figures in the footballing world are now being linked with a move to St. James’ Park.

Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal has been linked with Newcastle in the last few days.

And now, according to ESPN, Mauricio Pochettino and Edinson Cavani are also in the sights of the Magpies’ incoming brass.

ESPN claims that Newcastle’s new owners will go after a big-name manager, with Mauricio Pochettino and former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri amongst their preferred candidates.

Edinson Cavani, who was linked with a move away from PSG in the January window, is also said to be one of Newcastle’s transfer targets.

Cavani’s current contract at the Parc des Princes is set to run out this year, while Pochettino has been out of work since parting ways with Tottenham at the back end of 2019.
