England saw off Senegal by three goals to nil on Sunday evening to advance to the quarter-finals where they will meet France on Saturday.
Vs Senegal, England had a slow start, but two players stood out for the Three Lions, even when they were not at their best.
Said players were Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden. Foden was the only player on the pitch capable of attempting quick build-up play, receiving and then distributing the ball as fast as possible in order to try and break down Senegal.
Bellingham, meanwhile, chased down every ball and won countless duels throughout the match. He also provided the assist for Jordan Henderson’s opener.
Now, after the game, Foden has backed Bellingham to become the best midfielder in the world.
He told ITV: “I don’t want to big him up too much as he’s still a young, but he’s one of the most gifted players I’ve ever seen.
Foden continued: “We’re all buzzing with the result. We will celebration tonight but it’s knockout football so we will have to recover tomorrow and think about the next opponent, which will be really tough.
He added: “They look like the strongest in the competition up until now, but we back ourselves on the day.”
