Wales and Iran clashed in Friday’s early World Cup kick-off.
After Wales drew with the USA and Iran were smashed 6-2 by England earlier this week, both teams knew that they needed a win to really stand any chance of qualifying from the group.
It was Iran who dominated for much of Friday’s match, hitting the post several times and forcing some good saves out of Wayne Hennessey.
However, it was Hennessey who somewhat cost Wales the result on Friday.
Neco Williams played a poor ball up the pitch late on, which led to an Iran counter. This saw Hennessey sprint out of his goal and knee an Iran player in the head. The keeper was rightly sent off following the tackle, reducing Wales to 10 men.
Around the same time, Joe Allen was brought on for Wales. The former midfielder had a pretty dismal cameo, giving away the ball for Iran’s first goal and playing a key part in their second strike as well.
Joe Allen with one of the worst 15 mins you’ll ever see in a World Cup

Joe Allen doing a seriously good job of making Aaron Ramsey feel better about his performance with his 20 minute cameo here.

Joe Allen looked miles off the pace at the end there, only came on in the 77th minute

Joe Allen arguably at fault for both goals but Ashley Wilkams somehow thinking he should’ve started ahead of Ampadu.
Clueless.
