‘Offside at the Emirates’ – Former Arsenal star responds to Marcus Rashford’s late Man United winner
One-time Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has taken to social media on Saturday, to respond to the tight offside call which ultimately resulted in Manchester United securing all three points against West Ham.
For those not aware, Ralf Rangnick’s United returned to Premier League action earlier today, eventually emerging on the right side of a 1-0 scoreline to keep their top-4 hopes alive and well.
Marcus Rashford proved the difference-maker on the day, emerging from the bench to slot home from Edinson Cavani’s assist.
Many, however, quickly revealed their shock with the goal being allowed to stand, adamant that Cavani, also a substitute on the day, was stood in an offside position upon being played in.

And one individual evidently of the opinion that other Premier League clubs, in particular Arsenal, may not have been the beneficiaries of such a call is ex-Gunner Jack Wilshere.
Taking to Twitter on the back of the full-time whistle at Old Trafford, Wilshere, currently maintaining his fitness alongside the rest of Mikel Arteta’s squad, responded to a post on the part of United legend Gary Neville with the (presumably tongue-in-cheek) message:
‘That’s offside at the Emirates!!’

Edi onside
Unfortunately for Wilshere, and any others who remain of the belief that Manchester United’s winner on Saturday should have been chalked off, though, the fact is that Cavani was indeed onside upon latching onto Anthony Martial’s through ball.
An image of the official offside lines utilised by the VAR team at Old Trafford has been released post-match, showcasing the fact that the veteran hitman was positioned in a less advanced position than the last line of West Ham’s defence before teeing up Rashford:
