FC Porto have confirmed the sale of Fabio Vieira to Arsenal in an official statement, bringing the deal to a close less than 24 hours after it hit the media.

News only broke on Thursday afternoon that a deal was in the works for the 22-year-old midfielder, who had also previously caught the eye of Liverpool.

Able to play as an attacking midfielder, in the wide areas or as a second striker when required, he returned 6 goals and 14 assists in 27 Liga Portugal outings this campaign, despite not being an altogether regular starter.

Now, he is north London bound, with an official statement on the part of the Portuguese side revealing that they are set to net up to 40m euros from the operation.

“Deal complete for amount of €40m, and of these, €5m are dependent on achievement of sports objectives”, they wrote.

What next for Arsenal?

Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans are both still priorities for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal this summer, with deals seemingly getting closer for both players.

Beyond that, they were previously linked with cover at full-back, as well as a left-sided centreback and a winger. Aaron Hickey, Raphinha and Nico Schlotterbeck have all previously been mentioned as potential targets.

Meanwhile, Eddie Nketiah is set to sign a new contract, with reports suggesting that he will also receive the no.14 shirt, previously worn by Theo Walcott, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Thierry Henry.
