Newcastle United team news and predicted XI vs Nottingham Forest

All the latest team news as they look to continue their top four form.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle United are looking to continue their push for a top 4 spot as they travel to Nottingham Forest on Friday night, with a win taking them to within a point of Tottenham ahead of the weekend’s action.

Having fallen away somewhat in recent weeks, the Magpies got back to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wolves, moving them four points behind Tottenham in fourth, but with two games in hand on the north London side.

Should they manage to navigate their way through those undefeated, they will head joint-fourth with Antonio Conte’s side, and they even have the possibility of catching Manchester United, who sit six points clear of the Magpies in third but with a much inferior goal difference.

Here’s the latest from the Magpie camp and how we expect Eddie Howe’s side to line up.

Team News

January signing Anthony Gordon will play no part against Forest after picking up an injury late against Manchester City.

‘It was a strange one because, after the [City] game, there was no sign of an injury” Howe began. “[His ankle] swelled, and we got it scanned. He’ll miss probably the next two games. I’m not sure if he’ll be back after the international break.”

In more concerning news, the impressive Joelinton will be absent after picking up his 10th yellow card of the season against the Cityzens, meaning that he will miss this game and also the first game after the international break, a massive top four clash with Manchester United.

Ryan Fraser remains excluded from the squad and training with the under 23s.
