Newcastle team news & predicted line-up vs Southampton

Here is the latest Newcastle team news ahead of their clash with Southampton.

Eddie Howe's side are getting cut adrift at the bottom of the league

Newcastle head into the match on a fine run of form.

The Magpies are one of just three teams to have only lost one league game this season and boas the best defence in the division.

This has seen Eddie Howe and co. climb to 4th in the Premier League.

Ahead of the game with Southampton, 101GreatGoals has provided the latest Newcastle team news.

Newcastle team news vs Southampton

Fabian Schar

Schar suffered a hamstring issue last weekend vs Aston Villa. After the match, Eddie Howe said: “Fabian was just feeling his hamstring, I hope he’s OK. There’s a number of players today just feeling the effects of the busy period, so hopefully, we’ve got nothing too serious.”

Ahead of facing Southampton, meanwhile, Howe did not mention anything on Schar, suggesting he is ok to play this weekend.

Joelinton

Will miss the Southampton game after picking up five yellow cards.

Allan Saint-Maximin

Saint-Maximin missed three league matches with a muscle injury, but returned off the bench last weekend in a 4-0 win over Aston Villa.

Aleksandr Isak

Isak picked up a hamstring issue vs Bournemouth on September 17 and is set to be out until after the World Cup.

Howe said on October 28: “Alex has been having a couple of injections on his thigh. I believe that has gone well and the medical team are happy with where he stands. But it’s a 5-6 week injury so as I’ve said he won’t be back before the World Cup.”

Matt Ritchie

Ritchie picked up a calf problem and is likely to be out until the World Cup: “Matt picked up a calf problem. We don’t know whether he’ll be back before the World Cup, but he’s doing well,” Howe said.

Emil Krafth

Krafth suffered an ACL injury in August and is expected to be out for 6-9 months.

“It’s an ACL injury. He’s not been operated on yet, so it’s difficult to give a firm date, but it’s going to be six to nine months. A long time out, which is a huge blow to us,” Howe said on August 30.

Paul Dummett

Dummett has a calf strain and there is currently no return date cited for the defender.
